BIOGRAPHY
Bethan Terry is a lyric-coloratura soprano based in London, with Yorkshire roots. Her professional engagements range from full-scale operas to intimate recitals. Her most recent performances include: Adina and Giannetta in L’elisir d’amore (Wild Arts Tour); recitals of French song in London’s Wigmore Hall and Paris’ Salle Cortot.
Her operatic roles include Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus (Merry Opera), Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, the title role in Semele, Contessa and Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Belinda in Dido & Aeneas, Elettra in Idomeneo, Stella in Previn’s A Streetcar named Desire and Jenny in Weill’s Die Dreigroschenoper. Bethan’s recent concert performances include: a BBC Immersion: George Walker concert, Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Bach’s Magnificat in Ely Cathedral, Haydn’s The Creation (Solihull Choral), a concert with Oxford Lieder, two recital tours in Northern Italy and a staged gala for Clonter Opera.
Bethan was recently awarded joint first prize at the Dean & Chadlington Competition. She was also a finalist or semi-finalist in the ROSL Competition, Somerset Song Prize, London Song Festival Schubert Prize and the Hurn Court Competition. She is a Josephine Baker Trust Artist and was a Leeds Lieder Young Artist. Bethan was a Junior Fellow at Guildhall School, where she also completed her master’s with Janice Chapman and Marie Vassiliou; her undergraduate was at Trinity Laban, where she studied with Sophie Grimmer.
